After General Motors discontinued the B-body Chevrolet Caprice in 1996, the Crown Victoria became the primary police vehicle for most police fleets in the United States. The 4.6 liter V8 introduced in 1992 was produced at two plants. The Crown Victoria itself remained in 1996 a six passenger rear wheel drive sedan built by Ford Canada at St. Thomas Assembly in Ontario, alongside the Grand Marquis.
