The first generation Neon was introduced at the 1993 Frankfurt Motor Show and went on sale in January 1994 for the 1995 model year. In the United States the lineup started out as Base, Highline and Sport, available as a four door notchback sedan and a two door notchback coupe. Chrysler assembled the Neon in its Belvidere Assembly facility in Illinois and at Toluca in Mexico. The Neon was the first compact car to become profitable for an American automaker.
