After the 1994 model year Mazda withdrew the Navajo, and production came to an end after three years, with the Ford Escape based Mazda Tribute coming in 2000 as its replacement. The Navajo of 1994 was a three door Explorer based SUV sold in North America in the DX and LX trims, with a 4.0 liter V6, and its reputation later suffered in the Firestone and Ford tire controversy. The Navajo name came from the Navajo people of the American Southwest.
