The 250,000th MX-5 rolled out of the factory on 9 November 1992, a milestone reached in the fourth year of production. It was the last of three consecutive years on the Car and Driver 10Best list for 1990 to 1992. The first generation car was still the 1.6 liter, 116 horsepower roadster with pop up headlights and without power steering, air conditioning or a sound system on base models. A longitudinal truss called the Powerplant Frame joins the engine to the differential.
