The 2.0 liter M series unit from the 800 Series followed soon afterwards, in 1991, in the sportier versions of the Rover 400. The 400 Series of 1991 was a four door saloon, in its second year, a co developed car of the collaboration between Rover and Honda, based on the Honda Concerto, whose 1.6 liter version used a Honda D16A6 single cam or D16A8 twin cam engine. It was sold alongside the second generation 200 Series.
