For 1991 the 2.2 liter turbocharged engine was dropped in favor of the new 2.5 liter high torque turbocharged engine. Although sporting a lesser power output of 152 horsepower, this engine offered 210 foot pounds of torque, exceeding that of the Turbo II. Also new was the addition of an IROC model with either the 3.0 liter V6 or turbocharged 2.5 liter engine, which differed visually from lesser models by a ground effects kit.
