In 1989 for the 1990 model year a minor exterior update gave the Continental a new grille, hood ornament and taillights. Lincoln offered a 50th Anniversary Edition in 1990 to mark the Continental's first fifty years, and the Continental helped Lincoln to record total sales in 1989 and again in 1990. The Continental now offered the InstaClear heated windshield and a cellular phone, available starting with the 1990 model year.
