The three speed C6 automatic that had been offered from 1987 was phased out in 1990 in favor of the overdrive equipped four speed AOD, which was offered for 1990 only, and the heavier duty E4OD, which was used from 1990 to 1991. The 1990 Bronco remained a short wheelbase F-150 derived SUV with a lift off hardtop, in XL, XLT and Eddie Bauer trims. The Mazda sourced five speed manual continued as well.
