Production in 1988 was 10,655 cars in total, all styles, according to figures from Mitsubishi Japan, down from 17,605 in 1987. The Starion of 1988 was a widebody turbocharged fastback sports car, sold in North America as the Starion and the Conquest, with the front mounted four cylinder engine driving the rear wheels. It is a two door coupe with a fastback design and seating for four passengers. Mitsubishi says Starion is a contraction of Star of Arion, referring to both a star and the mythical horse Arion.
