Honda replaced the Today's very compact EH engine, already outdated in a market where three cylinder engines were the norm, with the 547 cc E05A, a three cylinder with four valves and a single overhead camshaft, in February 1988. The Today had a minor facelift at the same moment, with aerodynamic headlight lenses that matched the rest of the Honda range taking the place of the round headlights, and the hood had to be raised to fit the bulkier engine. JW2 was the chassis code for the commercial model, and JA1 the code for the passenger model.
