Factory-built Range Rovers went on sale in the United States on 16 March 1987, after launching at the Los Angeles show in January and the Chicago show on 7 February, and only four-door cars were ever imported. A Turbo D Range Rover broke a number of diesel speed and endurance records in 1987, one of them a 24-hour continuous run above 100 mph. The Range Rover was by then also sold through a growing American dealer network.
