The Orion was a strong seller in the United Kingdom, peaking as the seventh best selling car in 1987 and 1988 with over 70,000 sales each time. The Mark II had the option of anti lock brakes and a heated front windscreen, a 1.4 litre CVH lean burn engine and a base L version with a 1.3 litre OHV Valencia engine. It remained a four door saloon version of the Escort. The Orion was a four door saloon based on the Ford Escort hatchback, with a separate boot.
