For 1984 the 3.8 L V6 replaced the inline six entirely as an optional engine on sedans and station wagons of the Marquis, whose standard engine remained the 2.3 L inline four on sedans. The Marquis was a counterpart of the Ford LTD, with its own grille, taillamps and parking lamp lenses, and Ford Venezuela marketed it as the Ford Cougar from 1983 to 1985. The fourth generation Marquis was a mid size car that shared its bodyshell with the Ford LTD.
