The 1983 Zephyr was the last, before the front wheel drive Mercury Topaz replaced it for the 1984 model year, together with the Ford Tempo replacing the Fairmont. The Zephyr nameplate was briefly reused by Lincoln in 2006, for a mid size sedan that was renamed the Lincoln MKZ for 2007. The Zephyr was a compact on the Fox platform, slotted above the Lynx. It was the third vehicle to use the nameplate within Ford Motor Company.
