In 1983 the RX-7 appeared on the Car and Driver Ten Best list for the first time in twenty years, and the 130 mph speedometer returned. The Japanese Savanna RX-7 Turbo was introduced in September 1983, with a fuel injected 12A turbo making 165 PS, whose Impact Turbo was developed for the exhaust of a rotary engine. Allan Moffat won the 1983 Australian Touring Car Championship in an RX-7. The rotary engine ran so smoothly at high speed that a buzzer on the tachometer warned the driver when the 7,000 rpm redline was near.
