The 1983 model year was the last for the CJ-5 in the United States, and the car had run from 1955, with three decades of production while three newer models appeared. It still came standard with the Hurricane branded Iron Duke four cylinder from 1980 through 1983, with the 258 six optional, and trim packages such as the Renegade and the Golden Eagle were offered until 1983. The CJ-5 was effectively replaced by the longer CJ-7.
