In 1982 Plymouth downsized the Gran Fury again, this time onto the mid size M platform it shared with the Chrysler Fifth Avenue, which was called the New Yorker in 1982 and 1983, and with the Dodge Diplomat. The M body Gran Fury replaced the M body Chrysler LeBaron, which had moved to the compact K platform that year. Like its predecessor, the 1982 Gran Fury was introduced later than its Chrysler and Dodge siblings, which had used the M body since 1977.
