The Tredia entered most European markets in October 1982, where in several countries it replaced the rear wheel drive Lancer although the two were built in parallel for many years. It was a subcompact sedan with front wheel drive and a choice of 1.4 liter and 1.6 liter engines, and a 1.6 liter turbo, and in Japan it was sold at the Car Plaza retail chain. The Tredia used front-wheel drive and was similar in design to the contemporary Mirage, although larger.
