The first production EXP and LN7 were assembled on February 16, 1981, and the LN7 was sold for the 1982 model year as the Mercury variant of the first two seat Ford since the original Thunderbird. Ford expected to build and sell 200,000 EXPs and 70,000 LN7s in the 1982 model year, with approximately half that number making production. St. Thomas Assembly in Ontario produced all of both models for 1982. The LN7 was the divisional counterpart of the Ford EXP, the first two seat Ford since the original Thunderbird.
