In 1982 the coupe and station wagon were discontinued and Canada's Plymouth version of the Diplomat, the Plymouth Caravelle, came south of the border, offered in the United States as the Plymouth Gran Fury. For 1982 the Diplomat became the counterpart of the nearly identical Plymouth Gran Fury and the flagship Chrysler Fifth Avenue. From 1982 onward the model line was offered solely as a four door sedan.
