The 1979 Corvette went back to the crossed flag emblems on the nose and fuel door used in 1977, and took over the bucket seats, spoilers and glass roof panels that had first appeared on the 1978 pace car replicas. It was the biggest sales year in Corvette history, with 53,807 built, a record that has not been beaten, and fewer than one in five cars had a manual gearbox. The bucket seats, the front and rear spoiler package and the glass roof panels from the 1978 pace car replicas became available on the production cars.
