The first generation model of Mitsubishi's compact pickup truck was first sold in Japan as the Mitsubishi Forte in September 1978. In Japan the Forte was originally sold with the 92 PS 1.6 liter 4G32 engine. It was offered in a basic Deluxe trim, and the larger engined version was also available in a leisure oriented Custom trim. The Triton is a mid-size pickup truck, also known as the Mitsubishi L200, produced by Mitsubishi Motors.
