For 1978 the Concours was discontinued to make way for the newly downsized Malibu, and the Nova Custom inherited much of its exterior finery. Any 1978 Nova could be ordered with the 250 cubic inch six, a 145 horsepower 305 V8 or a 170 horsepower 350 V8. Production dropped almost 100,000, to 288,000, which made Nova the only Chevrolet series to show a sales decline for 1978, and law enforcement agencies in 48 states were driving Novas.
