The P6 ended in 1977, after being built by Rover and then British Leyland at Solihull from 1963, and the SD1 arrived in 1977. The 3500 had continued to be offered until 1977, and the 2200 was produced through to the early part of 1977. The Rover 3500 was also assembled by Leykor in South Africa, where the SD1 arrived in 1977. The Rover SD1 replaced the P6, which had been built for fourteen years. The P6 was a Solihull car.
