Production of the Roadpacer ceased in late 1977 after only 800 units were built and 799 cars sold, with the sales of leftover stock continuing into 1979. It was sold in the wake of the first fuel crisis and was not a commercial success, at about twice the price of a Mazda Cosmo or Luce, and most were sold to government departments and later crushed. It is the only General Motors product ever fitted for production with a rotary engine.
