The first Mitsubishi Lancer, the A70, was launched in February 1973 to fill the gap between the Minica kei car and the larger Galant. It came as two and four door sedans, a two door hardtop coupe and a five door station wagon with 1.2, 1.4 and 1.6 liter four cylinder engines. The car was marketed under many names, among them the Dodge Colt in the United States, the Plymouth Colt in Canada, the Chrysler Valiant Lancer in Australia and the Colt Lancer in Europe.
