A dealer installed radio became available in 1973, and the 1973 Super Jeep was an appearance package created because of a shortage of the aluminum wheels needed for the Renegade versions, with only a few hundred built. The Renegade, using the 304 V8, alloy wheels and a Trac Lok differential, was offered from 1972 until 1983, and the AMC engines gave the CJ-5 a power to weight ratio comparable to a V8 muscle car.
