In 1973 the Capri reached the highest sales total it would ever attain, 233,000 vehicles, and the one millionth Capri, an RS 2600, was completed on 29 August. On 25 September Ford approved the long awaited right hand drive RS Capri, which replaced the Cologne V6 RS 2600 with the Essex V6 based RS 3100, its 3.0 liter engine bored out to 3,098 cc. North American versions had larger rubber covered bumpers for 1973 to meet US rules.
