For 1972 the optional rear seat air conditioning was redesigned with a smaller housing, where it had previously been fitted with a housing that ran the full length of the roof. While only about 6,200 Suburbans were produced for 1967, by 1972 production had grown to approximately 27,000, a measure of how much more popular the full size SUV had become in the sixth generation. The sixth generation ended with the 1972 model year, and the Rounded Line cars followed for 1973.
