The 1970 Impala was a minor facelift, with a more conventional bumper under the grille in place of the wrap around unit of 1969, and new triple vertical taillights in the rear bumper. A big block V8 was still available, now displacing 454 cubic inches, after Chevrolet had ended the Impala Super Sport series after 1969. Big block muscle was now focusing on intermediate and even compact cars, so Chevrolet discontinued the Impala Super Sport series after 1969, and the Turbo Jet 454 replaced the 427 for 1970.
