For 1969 the Suburban was joined by the shorter K5 Blazer, called the Jimmy at GMC, a two door utility vehicle with a lift off hardtop. The extended length of the Suburban since 1967 had been made to make room for this Blazer. After the 1970 model year the configuration was retired, with the model functionally replaced by the G Series Chevrolet Van and GMC Vandura for 1971. The K5 Blazer shared the platform and was called Jimmy at GMC.
