The 1969 model year Chevelle was marketed as America's most popular mid size car, with minor changes led by revised front end styling. All 1969 Chevelles had a new locking steering column one year ahead of the federal requirement, and headrests were required for all cars sold in the United States after January 1, 1969. A police package, RPO B07, was available on the Chevelle 300 Deluxe four door sedan, and Chevrolet built a steam powered concept, the SE 124, on a Chevelle.
