The 1968 Corvette was a complete redesign, with a new body and a new interior, drawn from the Mako Shark II show car that Bill Mitchell had started in early 1964. General Motors tried to keep the shape secret, but a Hot Wheels die cast model of the 1968 car was released weeks before the real car was unveiled. Engines and chassis parts were mostly carried over from the previous generation. Both the body and the interior were new, while the engines and chassis components were mostly carried over.
