A high performance version of the 1600, the 1600 TI, was introduced in September 1967, and also introduced that month was a limited production cabriolet, produced by Baur. The original cabriolet design was a full convertible, but after 1971 it was replaced by a targa top model with fixed window frames called a top cabriolet. Once the 2 liter 2002 arrived, the 1600 TI was immediately discontinued. The cabriolet was built by the coachbuilder Baur.
