The 1966 Dart was the last year of the third generation that had begun in 1963. It used the same longer wheelbase A body as earlier models, apart from the wagons, which used the shorter wheelbase of the Valiant, and it stayed popular in the compact market. The slant six and the 273 V8 were the engines, with a performance 273 available, and the Dart remained the Dodge senior compact built on the 111 inch wheelbase, in competition with the Ford Falcon and the Chevrolet Nova.
