Automatic gearboxes became available on the Mark II Riley Elf in 1965 as an option. The Elf of 1965 was the Riley badged version of the Mini released in 1961, the more expensive of the two three box cars with the Wolseley Hornet, with a full width wood veneer dashboard that was a differentiator between the Elf and the Hornet. The Elf was in its fifth year on sale. It was a car with a Riley grille.
