Several features that had been intended for the new generation were delayed until 1965. Front disc brakes became standard equipment, and sequential turn signals that flashed three bulbs in the broad horizontal tail lights from inside to outside were added, having been held back by vehicle lighting regulations. Exterior trim was revised with a new grille. The convertible borrowed the top mechanism of the new Lincoln Continental, which folded the fabric top beneath the trunklid.
