The 1964 Dart continued as Dodge's senior compact on the A body suspension of the Valiant, which underpinned all Darts from 1963 to 1976. It stayed popular against the Ford Falcon and the Chevrolet Nova, and was offered to the taxicab industry through its whole run from 1963 to 1976. In mid-1964 Chrysler released an all new 273 cubic inch V8 as an option in all Valiants and Darts, the first of Chrysler's LA engine range that would last until 2002 and was engineered to fit compact cars.
