The program to create new Chryslers for 1962 was abruptly canceled in 1960, so Chrysler took its 1961 full size models and mixed and matched them. The 1962 New Yorkers were offered only as four door models, made by mating the 1961 New Yorker front end to the de finned body of a Dodge Polara sedan, and the wagon to the body of a Plymouth Suburban. The 1962 New Yorker was the last Chrysler to have a 126 inch wheelbase.
