For 1960 Mercury sedans underwent their second major exterior revision in two years, adopting more restrained styling that nearly removed the tailfins altogether. The 1960 Montclair was the last year of the third generation and of the first use of the name, before Ford's cancellation of Edsel led to a consolidation of Mercury and Lincoln for 1961, when Mercury adopted a Ford bodyshell and chassis. The Montclair was a mid range full size Mercury sedan on a body exclusive to Mercury.
