The 1960 Ford was the mainstream full-size American Ford car line from 1960 to 1964, sold beside the Thunderbird, the compact Falcon and, from 1962, the midsized Fairlane. It rode on a 119 inch wheelbase and carried over the engines and basic chassis of the 1959 Ford under all-new sheet metal with twin headlights in a scalloped square front. The retracting Skyliner hardtop was gone while the Sunliner convertible remained, and the lineup ran from Fairlane and Fairlane 500 to Galaxie and the Starliner. For 1961 the tailfins nearly vanished in favour of two circular taillights at each corner. In 1962 the Galaxie 500 and 500XL arrived, and for 1963 a 427 cubic inch FE V8 was offered.
