1957 Ford

Automobiles

The 1957 Ford was the mainstream American Ford car line, which grew substantially larger for 1957 and lasted through 1959. The Crown Victoria with its chrome basket handle was dropped and the Skyliner, a retracting-roof hardtop, replaced the acrylic-roofed Crown Victoria Skyliner. A new chassis let the floor sit much lower, giving a lower and longer look on 14 inch wheels, and the cars had long flanks and tailfins. The trim lines were Custom, Custom 300, Fairlane and top-line Fairlane 500. The 223 cubic inch overhead-valve six made 144 horsepower and the V8s ran from the 190 horsepower 272 Y-block up to a supercharged 312. For 1958 it gained dual headlights, and the Galaxie arrived the same year.
