The A40 Devon was replaced in 1952 by the Austin A40 Somerset, after more than 450,000 had been built since 1947 by Austin, which marketed the Devon and the similar two door Dorset as its first post war saloons. The Countryman estate of the Devon was produced until late 1956, and the sports car version, the Austin A40 Sports, was a separate model. The Somerset replaced it that year. The sports version was a different car.
