The FX3 went into full production in 1949, after being announced at the Commercial Motor Exhibition the previous November. Carbodies of Coventry made the body and finished the complete vehicle on a chassis supplied by Austin, and delivered it to the taxi dealers. The cab was meant for the London market but was also used in other towns and cities, and a 3 litre Perkins diesel engine was later offered as well.
