The 1937 Ford was the American Ford car line that Ford refreshed in 1937 from its predecessor, the Model 48, itself based on the Model 40A, and it was the company's main product. The one major change was an entry-level 136 cubic inch V8 offered alongside the popular 221 cubic inch flathead V8. At launch it cost 850 US dollars. Ford numbered the cars by horsepower, so in 1937 the 85 HP cars were the Model 78 and the 60 HP cars the Model 74, renumbered in 1938 and again in 1939. The rounded, streamlined look had a V-shaped front grille and faired-in headlights, the 1938 recession hurt sales, and 1940 was the last year of the design before the 1941 redesign.
