In late 1931 the chassis of the Austin 7 was lengthened by 6 inches with a corresponding increase in the rear track. The Austin 7 was an economy car produced from 1922, nicknamed the Baby Austin, which had replaced most other British economy cars and cyclecars of the early 1920s, and by 1931 it had been in production for nine years and was one of the most popular cars produced for the British market.
