An Austin made steel panelled saloon was introduced in September 1926 at 165 pounds, after Gordon England had shown there would be a market for one, with his Austin Seven saloon. The Austin 7 of 1926 was the Baby Austin economy car, in its fourth year of production at Longbridge, which transformed the fortunes of the Austin Motor Company after it had been in receivership. The steel saloon followed the open tourer and the Gordon England saloon.
