After the First World War, in 1919, the engine of the Clegg Rover 12 got a detachable cylinder head and an electric starter. The car had been in production since 1912, a four cylinder side valve car of 2297 cubic centimeters designed by Owen Clegg, and around 5,000 had been made before the war. It was the larger of the Rover cars of the time and sold well in the postwar years. The engine was the four cylinder 2297 cubic centimeter unit.
