The Mitsubishi Fuso Canter Eco Hybrid is a hybrid diesel-electric commercial truck made and sold by the Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation in Japan and built at the company's Kawasaki Manufacturing Plant in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture. It combines a compact turbocharged diesel engine of 123 horsepower, the same unit used in conventional medium-duty trucks in Japan, with a slim 47 horsepower brushless permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor and generator and lithium-ion batteries, linked through a high-efficiency automated transmission. The result is described as a medium-duty truck that achieves up to 30 percent better fuel economy in delivery applications and produces significantly lower emissions than the diesel-only model. The truck was shown at the National Work Truck Show in Atlanta and the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville in March 2006, and DHL Japan has used it to collect and deliver small and medium-sized packages in the Ohta-ku area since 20 July 2006. An Australian listing names an 815 Eco-Hybrid Wide Cab model in medium and long wheelbase.
