The Leyland 2-Tonner was a small forward-control van and truck that Leyland Motors developed to extend its commercial range downwards, with a payload of 2,000 kg. Development began before Leyland Motors took over the Standard Motor Company. Power came from a Standard OE138 diesel of 2,260 cubic centimetres, also fitted to Ferguson tractors, giving 44 kW or 60 PS, mounted between the driver and passenger seats and driving the rear axle through a propeller shaft. It was built in short and long wheelbase forms of 2,850 and 3,430 mm as a box van, minibus, pickup, ambulance, patient transport vehicle and chassis for special bodies, and the box van offered 9.3 or 11.3 cubic metres of load space. When Leyland Motors merged with the British Motor Corporation in 1968 to form the British Leyland Motor Corporation, production of the 2-Tonner and of the Leyland 15/20 was ended so as not to compete with the BMC models, and the BMC 350 EA took its place.
